Deranged Creatures, c'est le fantasme d'un album de Tom Waits produit par Aphex Twin, un disque perdu, amputé de moitié, enregistré un lendemain de cuite dans une maison hantée pleine d'animaux empaillés et d'objets animés ; une maison aux volets fermés occupée par une voix pâteuse qui court après sa propre solitude, cernée par un luna park de ville côtière anglaise, ringard et terrifiant, où tous les manèges tombent en morceaux et au centre duquel Matilda valse avec des robots sur des enregistrements d'une fanfare slave dont les musiciens sont morts depuis des décennies tandis que Frank s'abandonne à la tendresse des machines après dix bouteilles de vin ; un espace-temps bancal où la réalité bégaie et où les télévisions ne diffusent plus que de la neige, des grésillements et le championnat du monde de billard, parfois ; un monde où la perfection se calcule en millionième de seconde puisque tout fini toujours par foirer et où le désastre contemporain est le plus fin des divertissements. C'est trente-cinq minutes de métrique bâtarde, de cynisme dansant, de basses tentaculaires et de groove siamois pour dancefloors dégénérés, huit morceaux qui résonnent souvent du ricanement assassin d'un Ray Davis et du génie composite d'un groupe comme Hot Chip - il semblerait que Ca$h4otters s'astreint à composer la pop la plus délicate du monde avant de la noyer sous la toux chronique de la tuyauterie, les soupirs des turbines et le crissements de composants électroniques piétinés par des foules frappées de délirium trémens pour en faire quelque chose qui soit plus que joli : un truc glissant, grincant et de guingois, qui mettrait un point d'honneur à toujours s'effondrer avec grâce.
